One thing for sure is that, as leaders, we are all slightly different. At the same time, there are some things that we can do in my opinion to create our own personal leadership success recipe.
Be clear about what you want to achieve
As a leader, your job is to create opportunities and deliver success for the organisation, team, function, division or project that you are leading. The clearer you can be about what it is you want to achieve, the easier it is going to be to steer yourself towards that result.
All of us have things that we do really well. We also have things that we don’t do so well. Sometimes we continue to do things that we don’t do so well because we worry that others will see us as incompetent. The truth is the best leaders don’t try to be masters of everything; they play to their strengths. If you don’t know your strengths, make a point of finding out.
Feedback not only identifies things that you are not doing so well but also highlights qualities and attributes that you are not fully utilising. Become a feedback junkie and put the learning into action.
Embrace continued personal and professional growth
If you stand still for too long, you will simply lose ground. See continued personal and professional growth as an opportunity.
The Bottom Line: We all have untapped potential. So what are you doing to create more success as a leader?
