How to Integrate Social Media for Marketing Purposes

Internet marketers and aficionados are flocking to social media sites like Twitter and Facebook for anything and everything. From meeting people to building a business, social media has become the preferred tool of many. Network Marketers are no exception.

Aside from the basic dos and don’ts of social media etiquette, effective use of these sites for marketing purposes requires strategic planning which differs greatly from other forms of advertising and promoting a business. Thus, it becomes imperative that network marketers learn how to integrate social media in a way that is most efficient and that will give them the best return for their time investment.

The first thing that must be in place is a blog. In other articles I have covered how to set up a blog for marketing purposes. Suffice it to say in this instance that the blog will serve as both the exit point of your content and the landing page, or site to which you direct all traffic generated from your social media efforts. The great thing about using a blog for this purpose is that it allows you to create full websites with minimal effort and cost. The are also very easy to update and link to RSS (Subscriptions for updates). You can also, and should, ad an opt-in box to your site using your autoresponder.

Once your blog has been set up, the next thing you need to do is create valuable content. This can be done in the form of articles and/or video. I suggest doing both. Create a video, then write a brief article using that same content. Use YouTube or Viddler to upload your video and get an embedding code. With that information, create a new blog post which includes a synopsis of the article you wrote in sync with the video. Embed the video to the post, and end with a call to action. Make sure to publish your post. Copy the permalink for the post, as you will need it for the next step.

The next thing you should have in place is a subscription to a social media management site like Ping.fm. This account should be linked to ALL you social media accounts. Once that is all set up, you need to log in to your account and enter an update to be blasted to all your social media. The update should invite your friends and followers to check out your latest and greatest source of value. Make sure to add your permalink to the message. If you will include Twitter in your Ping.fm post, make sure to shorten that url.

What will happen net you have no real control over, except to have your site set up in such a way that the visitor has no choice but to sign up for your offer.

So, be careful and keep yourself accountable for the use of your time in online marketing. Once you have this simple system in place, you will no longer risk your followers missing out on your valuable content.
