When I start a new website the first thing I go and look for is traffic. I need people to visit my site and see what it is I have to offer. The days of just building a website, and people will flock, is way long gone. Today we have to either pay for traffic or figure out ways to generate free traffic.
Traffic is the lifeblood of any website. Without traffic you have no business. Starting out in a new business, money is very tight. I want to go over with you 8 website traffic generation techniques that require no money. These techniques are free, but you must put in the work. Consistent action each day will eventually pay off with huge amounts of free targeted traffic.
Organic Local Search Listings
Start off with letting all the search engines know you have a new website. Head over to Digg.com and submit your new website link. Over the years I have found Digg to be the fastest way to get your new website noticed by the search engine spiders. Digg is the first place search engines look at for new content. As your website gets noticed you will see it start to rank higher and then get tons of free traffic sent from people searching for stuff online.
Video marketing is a free traffic generation technique that has gained popularity in the past few years. Website like YouTube will allow you to upload any video you want and then place a link back to your website. Your description under the video will let people know you have something cool to offer them at your website. This generates tons of free traffic and very targeted. Be creative with your videos. The more entertaining they are the more likely people will watch the entire video. Then at the end of your video tell people to click on your link for more information.
Twitter, Facebook and other social networking sites
Social networking sites are becoming even more popular than video and search engines. When you build up your network of friends try and connect with people who you think will be interested in what you have to offer on your website. This will build up a very targeted list of prospects you can always tap into. Free traffic from social networks can be huge, but you have to be careful not to just spam your link all over the place. Post things of value on your wall and people will want to read it. After your network trusts what you are doing they will then begin to click on your link back to your website.
Writing articles is the true foundation of free website traffic. If your writing good quality articles the amount of free traffic you can generate is endless. For me I like to write 3-4 articles per week. Each one is some new tip or marketing strategy. I then ask people to click on the link below to get more information. Search engines also love articles because its fresh quality content. Just like the video write something of value and then ask for the user to click on the link and get your free product.
This may sound high tech buts its very simple. iTunes is a free product that is offered by apple. Anyone can talk into there computer and create a podcast. Then upload this podcast to the iTunes store and its another free traffic generation tool.
One of my favorite all time free traffic sources is forums. If you do a search for “Keyword Forum” you can find highly targeted communities. Example would be “MLM Forum”, this will show you a list in the search engines of like minded people all wanting to know more information about MLM. Signup for the forum and start to answer questions. Be active and create valuable content for the forum user. Once you have established yourself, place a small link leading back to your website in the signature. Each time you post something new your signature will offer more value for each user to click and find out.
This is a great way to write up a page or 2 about what your website has to offer. Think of some quality benefits your website has and then create a press release. Do a search for press release companies. These are companies that will send your message off to there list. To get this free offer something in exchange. Maybe a link on your website back to them, or send out an email to your list. Just figure out a good traffic swap so you don’t have to spend any money.
Get to know someone else who has a very large list of emails and try and get them to send out an email about your new website. This can be tricky because you have to find something to offer the list owner. If you don’t know them, build up a relationship first before you ask for a joint venture. After you build up a relationship it will be easier to ask them to send out a mailing for you. Let them know you want to mail out something to your list, or put a link on your website.
All these free traffic generation techniques require no money, but they do require your time. Time is all you have when your first starting out, use it to the fullest. Once your free traffic takes off then start of add in some paid advertising.
